About

Back when I was in marketing class in business school one of my fellow students who worked full-time at a consulting firm and took classes at night asked our professor, “Can direct mail be effective for marketing a professional services firm?”

The professor’s answer, “I don’t think so.”

It might seem a bit grandiose to say that this moment-of-untruth was the beginning of a lifelong quest to gain and share services marketing knowledge. Then again, no one has ever accused me of being modest. It was the beginning. Since then, the team at Wellesley Hills Group, esteemed colleague John Doerr, and I have:

  • Created and grown Wellesley Hills Group, our firm focused on helping professional services firms grow. (Using many different strategies and tactics, including direct mail; yes, professor, it can work just fine.)
  • Founded RainToday.com, now the largest online content and membership site focused on professional services marketing and Rainmaking with 75,000 subscribers.
  • Written over 140 articles, research reports, and white papers on professional services marketing. We are also co-authors of the book Professional Services Marketing. (Creative name, don’t you think?)
  • Launched the Marketing and Selling Professional Services podcast which you can find here on Services Marketing Blog as well as RainToday.com. You can also subscribe directly via iTunes.

And, since January 2007 we’ve been publishing Services Marketing Blog. The mission of Services Marketing Blog is to share insight and create dialogue around the topics of professional services marketing, rainmaking, and leadership.

Services Marketing Blog is led by yours truly, Mike Schultz, and serves as the platform for sharing our ideas, articles, and research from both Wellesley Hills Group and RainToday.com.

Feel free to contact me at mschultz@whillsgroup.com, and by contributing to the dialogue on the blog. I look forward to hearing from you.
